La Mirada celebrates its fourth edition with a Festival that promises to delight cinema lovers. After scouring all over Spain and Latin America we are proud to deliver an eclectic program with only the finest selection of Hispanic cinema. La Mirada is the only festival in the world to be co-programmed by Pedro Almodóvar. The celebrated section Almodóvar Presents returns in 2010 with five not-to-be-missed masterpieces of Spanish cinema. We are also honoured to welcome as guest curators two outstanding filmmakers: Martin Scorsese and Stephen Daldry. They join past guest curators Paul Auster, Woody Allen and Penélope Cruz.
As you explore the program you will discover an array of genres; comedies, thrillers, dramas, capers and romantic films, featuring the most internationally acclaimed figures of Hispanic cinema. Consistent with the philosophy of the festival, the program also offers a plethora of profound and sincere works by daring, artistically ambitious authors who bring an uncompromising perspective to the art of filmmaking. It is always our intention to serve as an industry platform for the promotion and launch of the films represented in our program. Our curating criteria aims to offer a diverse, well balanced program, covering a wide spectrum, from the most successful commercial quality cinema, to the work of artists that represent an untamed perspective, a reflexive, transcendent cinema practically invisible in the commercial circuit. We are fortunate to have such a passionate and discerning audience, who enables us to bring together the popular with the unconventional.
