The Damned (Los Condenados)
The Damned is a thought-provoking, inspiring thriller that follows an exiled activist’s return to Argentina. Martín arrives in the Tucuman jungle to help his friend Raúl excavate a remote burial site containing the remains of disappeared activists from the 1970s. There they hope to find the remains of their companion, Ezequiel, who disappeared following a skirmish with the army. However, tensions rise between the two old comrades, as it becomes increasingly apparent that there may be more to the disappearances than either cares to admit. Isaki Lacuesta, guest of La Mirada Film Festival in 2008 and highly regarded for his documentaries and experimental work, presents a provocative meditation on the price of failing to adhere to your principles.
