Stranded is one of the most astonishing and inspiring survival tales of all time. On October 13, 1972 a young rugby team from Montevideo, Uruguay boarded a plane for a match in Chile. Within hours, the plane crashed on a remote Andean glacier. Two days before Christmas, 16 of the 45 passengers were rescued. Now, decades later, Gonzalo Arijón, childhood friend of some of the survivors, has made a compelling documentary that masterfully combines archival footage, on-location interviews and reenactments. The survivors returned to the crash site to recount their harrowing experience of defiant endurance and imperishable friendship in what is a hauntingly powerful and spiritually moving film.
