Optical Illusions (Ilusiones ópticas)
A blind man’s ordinary life is turned upside down when he recovers a precarious ability to see. His world is now made of uncertain shapes, blurry colours, quick flows that escape perception or understanding: optical illusions. Chilean director Cristian Jiménez masterfully deploys this trope in order to craft a breathtaking and delicate drama with comic undertones. Optical Illusions offers choral narrative in which the everyday affairs of everyday people interweave, collide and miraculously hold on together, producing a deep sense of magic and unreality in the most mundane of the worlds. A true gem in contemporary South American cinema.
