ISABEL COIXET

Isabel Coixet was born 9 April 1962 in Sant Adria de Besos, Barcelona, Spain. Her grandmother used to sell tickets in an old cinema in Barcelona. It was there Coixet was first inspired, not to be an actor, but to want to create beautiful stories as a director.  She received her M.A. in History at the University of Barcelona.  Her first feature film premiered in 1988 Demasiado viejo para morir joven, followed by Al que siguieron, A los que aman (1995), Cosas que nunca te dijeMi vida sin  (2003). She worked with Tim Robbins and Sarah Polley in her film The Secret Life of Words (2005) and participated in both films, Paris Je T'aime (2006) and The Invisibles (2007), directing a story for both. In 2008 she directed Penelope Cruz, Ben Kingsly and Dennis Hopper in the internationally acclaimed Elegy . The wonderful Map of the sounds of Tokyo (2009) screens at La Mirada film festival. Isabel Coixet also works as a journalist and creative director in top brand television advertisements. Praised by critics all over the world, she is a very important name in international advertising and has received the most prestigious awards. In 2000 she founded MISS WASABI FILMS where she also works in other film formats, like documentaries and video clips. She publicly supports the Spanish Socialist Worker's Party and President Zapatero (1998) and and made several Socialist advertisements for the 2008 Elections.
