REVIEWS

A glimpse into another world that is warm, sensuous and vital.
THE SUNDAY TIMES

It is a rare treat to witness the invaluable wisdom of those from whom the music seems to flow as a life source.
THE STAR

The film is a lyrical, reverent exploration of Tango’s imprint on the attitudes and emotions of Argentinians.
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH

Café de los maestros is buoyed by the quality of its music alone. (…) Soothing sound quality ensures the tango music. Sublime moments of sad splendor.
VARIETY
Russell Edwards

When focus shifts to the event that gives the film its title: In 2006, 22 of tango’s best were gathered at the swanky Teatro Colón to perform, and the result is magnificent regardless.

The music is the message: “If when you listen to a well-played tango you don’t feel your chest trembling,” one arranger says, “go do something else”.

WASHINGTON CITY PAPER
Tricia Olszewski

It's the Buena Vista Social Club of tango. There's the gathering of the old maestros, the reminiscences, the archive footage of how things used to be, the rehearsal, and the final concert in a prestigious venue - which is, naturally, a triumph.
SCREEN INTERNATIONAL
Lee Marshall

I was enthralled from the opening sequence of the film. I thought I knew tango music because my parents would often practice their steps before heading out to a community ball. Little did I know how different Argentinean tango music and dance is from the homogenized ballroom stuff we've grown accustomed to because of TV specials. The magic touch of Santaolalla is undeniable.
