25 Carat is a fresh and radical action-thriller exemplary of Spanish independent cinema. Kay is a petty car thief whose father, Sebas, is involved in larger scams that frequently go awry. In a chance encounter, Kay meets Abel, an ex-boxer and unofficial debt collector, who is struggling to provide for his young son. The pair strike up an impetuous relationship while devising plans to start anew. And so begins a tense journey through the underbelly of a gritty Barcelona teeming with thieves, hitmen and corrupt cops. Powerful performances, vertiginous hand-held camera action and a taut narrative infuse this breathless adventure with credibility and verve.
