Writing Short Films – April 16-17  9.30am-5pm

Writing an Award Winning Short Film.  All you need to make a short film is a camera, a computer and a story to tell, right? Short films require strong scripts to capture their audiences immediately and tell their stories efficiently. Over two intensive days, participants will be guided through the process of writing their own short script from scratch. They will gain knowledge of the elements needed to transform ideas into cohesive plots and engaging characters, using the language of cinema.
 
Introduction to After Effects May 28-29  9.30am-5pm

This two day course provides a detailed introduction to desktop compositing for moving images using Adobe After Effects CS5. After Effects is a program that allows new levels of creative freedom for designers, animators, art directors and editors.
 
Photoshop May 21  9.30am-5pm

Photoshop – A crash course in getting started! Photoshop has long been an essential tool of graphic designers and digital media artists and today it is widely used by filmmakers for everything from creating props to enhancing promotional stills, creating pitching documents and creating marketing tools for the web.
 
Introduction to Production Management 101  May 16-17  9.30am-5pm


This is a practical course covering the basic skills required to production manage a documentary or lower budget drama film.
 
Developing A Transmedia Project – June 20  9.30am-5pm

Do you have a film, TV show, online or mobile experience you are either developing or have produced? Do you want to extend the experience to other platforms? Then in this course we’ll apply some of the hard-one lessons about what works and what doesn’t to your ideas or productions. Whether your aim is good storytelling, big audiences or big bucks, it all comes down to effective transmedia design.
 
Hands on Directing Documentary – June 25-26  9.30am-5pm

This two-day hands-on intensive workshop gets filmmakers on their feet, with a camera finding their visual voice so they can create compelling character portraits and capture real life as it unfolds on screen. Through a variety of explorative exercises participants will learn the fundamentals of researching subjects(real people), preparing and directing interviews, exploring character and themes through both content and visual style, and the basics of shooting subjects on the run.
 
Low Budget Features: How, Why & What Not to Do!  June 29/July 6 &13  5.30pm – 9pm

Both practical and conceptual, this workshop aims to lead filmmakers through the minefield of low budget production possibilities and pitfalls. Using real examples from a range of recent productions, ultra low budget (under A$500,000) and those utilising the producer offset at the lower end of the budget spectrum (e.g. $1- $1.5m).The course explores the creative freedoms and restrictions accompanying the low budget feature. Exploring the reasons why embracing a low budget aesthetic may be a wise, pragmatic and creatively freeing career move.
 
An Introduction To Screenwriting September 24th & 25th 2011  9.30am-5pm

Want to learn how to write movie screenplays? This 2-day course is the ideal starting point.. Led by AFTRS Screenwriting lecturer and Cracking Yarns blogger, Allen Palmer, you’ll build the foundation of your craft by covering concept, character, story structure, scenes and dialogue. You’ll be introduced to the 12 steps of the Hero’s Journey illustrated with inspiring clips from films as diverse as Dead Poets Society and Groundhog Day, Schindler’s List and Little Miss Sunshine, Brokeback Mountain and The Hangover.
