Stephen Daldry

STEPHEN DALDRY
Stephen Daldry, born 2 May 1961 in Dorset England, is understood to be one of the greatest directors of all time. He began his career as a theatre director, apprenticed at the Sheffield Crucible. He went on to be Artistic Director of the Royal Court Theatre, the Gate Theatre, and the Metro Theatre Company and won many awards on Broadway and in the West End for his outstanding contribution to the stage.
His first feature film Billy Elliot (2000) is acknowledged as a cinematic masterpiece for which he received an oscar-nomination for Best Director. His following two films, The Hours (2002) and The Reader (2008) were also both nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards, making him the first and only person ever to accomplish this. He has directed five actors in oscar-nominated performances; Julie Walters, Ed Harris, Julianne Moore, and both Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet won Best Actress Oscars in his films. One of the most important contemporary filmmakers, it is a great pleasure to enjoy Spanish Cinema through his eyes. His selection, to be unveiled at the screening, will be accompanied by a video introduction recorded especially for the festival.
