Admired by some of the coolest and most respected filmmakers, like Tarantino, who confesses to being one of his fans, the exceptionally talented Guillermo del Toro has managed to maintain his cult following of hard core fans while becoming one of the most successful Hollywood filmmakers with high grossing, superb films such as the Hellboy saga. His film, Pan´s Labyrinth, was an enormous success worldwide and won Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film and Best Original Screenplay.
Guillermo del Toro was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in 1964. He grew up in a very strict Catholic household. Del Toro’s first foray into the art of filmmaking came when he was just eight years old and studied special effects and make-up with artist Dick Smith. In early adulthood del Toro spent eight years working as a special effects make-up designer which lead him to forming his own company, Necropia. This preceded del Toro forming his own production company, Tequila Gang, later on in his career.
