A couple driving back from an illicit encounter run over a working-class cyclist, whom they leave to die by the road. Regret and fear of being found out assails them both with different consequences for each. One of the key films in European Cinema, a stylish, suspenseful film which defied the bourgeoisie of the time and offered a blistering portrait of Francoist Spain while dealing with timeless moral issues.
